According to CIC Report, China is the largest highway transport market in the world. Highway transport is generally divided into three categories: transport of general cargoes, special transport of bulky cargoes and transport of hazardous chemicals.
1. Transport of general cargoes
General cargoes usually refer to ordinary materials. All vehicles capable of loading such cargoes are accepted. The transport mode includes less-than-truckload (LTL) transport (less than 3 t), truckload transport (more than 3 t, or vehicles with 3 t or above are needed), and container carrier transport.
2. Transport of bulky cargoes
The bulky cargoes are non-detachable, super-long (more than 14 m), super-wide (more than 3.5 m), super-high (more than 3 m) and overweight (more than 20 t), such as construction machinery, power equipment, chemical equipment and other heavy materials.
3. Transport of hazardous chemicals
Hazardous chemicals refer to flammable, explosive and corrosive chemical products, which have strict requirements for vehicle transport, such as fireworks, firecracker, gasoline, alcohol, methane, acetylene, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, pesticides, etc.
Note: Transport of bulk cargoes generally refers to the transport and distribution of extra-large equipment, which belongs to the logistics industry, but different from general logistics. General logistics only refers to the transport of small products. The equipment transport of bulky products involves overweight and ultralimit. Therefore, in the process of transport, more precautions and preparations are necessary for the logistics service corresponding to bulky products.
In 2019, the market capacity of China highway freight industry reached 6 trillion. According to the weight of cargoes and the way of organizing cargoes, the transport mode can be divided into three categories: express transport, LTL transport and truckload transport. The express market has the highest level of concentration and informatization, and the LTL and truckload market has the largest scale, but it is very scattered.
